The problem
First-year hockey registration in Calgary runs up to $1,100 — before a single piece of gear. A full kit of new equipment adds hundreds more, and a six-year-old grows out of half of it by February.
So families sit out, kids never get their first season, and garages fill with barely worn gear. And if you didn't grow up in the game, no one tells you what to buy, what fits, or where to start.
We think the gear — and the guesswork — shouldn't be the reason a kid never plays.

How it works
Tell us your kid's age and height. We build a complete, cleaned and refurbished starter kit — everything they need for day one, in the right sizes.
Pick up at a fit station with your local association. We make sure every piece fits properly, so they're comfortable, safe and confident on the ice.
Free size swaps all season long. When the season wraps, the kit comes back, gets refreshed and re-certified, and bridges to the next new family.

Gear Bridge came out of a conversation between two colleagues in Canadian high-performance hockey about why so many kids try the game once and never come back — and how much of that comes down to a shopping trip nobody prepared their family for.

Jordan leads operations and procurement in Canadian high-performance hockey, and before that managed player programs at Edge School in Calgary. Gear Bridge lives or dies on whether a kit actually fits, actually swaps and actually comes back — the operational promise Jordan has spent a career delivering at national scale.

Dylan works in high performance in Canadian hockey, with athletes at the very top of the game and the programs that get them there. Gear Bridge exists because that same pathway keeps narrowing at the bottom, where a first kit costs more than most families will gamble — and it's cost, not talent, doing the filtering.

Everything a first-year player needs to step on the ice: helmet and cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, pants, shin guards, skates, a stick and a bag. You bring a jersey and socks from your association — we bring the rest.
You swap it, free, as many times as you need. Growing out of skates in January is the single most normal thing a kid can do, and it should never cost you a second set of gear.
Bring it all back, no penalty. That's the whole point — a family should be able to try the game without betting eight hundred dollars on a maybe.
Every helmet in a Gear Bridge kit is bought new, certified, serial-tracked and retired on schedule — never reused past its date. Everything else is inspected, cleaned and re-certified between families, and anything that doesn't pass is retired rather than rented.
We're finalising pricing alongside our pilot associations, and waitlist families hear it first. The goal is simple and it isn't changing: a full season of properly fitted gear for a fraction of what one new kit costs.
We're launching with minor hockey associations in Calgary. The model is built to travel — to other cities, and to every sport with the same up-front gear problem — but we're getting it right in one place first.
